Quicken For Mac. For many years, Quicken for Mac had a rocky ride with Mac users when it was owned by Intuit but under new ownership, recent versions of Quicken on macOS have been considerable improvements. Quicken is probably the most popular personal finance application out there for Windows users although the Mac version has always lagged.
- Moneyspire vs Quicken. This app is easy to use. The user interface is simple and features a lot of charts. If it is your first time using a personal finance software or an app product, you will quickly advance through the learning curve. Moneyspire is available on Windows, Mac and Linux for desktop devices. The biggest drawback is that there is only an iOS mobile version.
- Of these three, Banktivity is the one with the most features. Also, like Quicken for Windows, Banktivity offers mobile synchronization with your iPad, iPhone, and even your Apple Watch. This Mac-first app looks and feels natural for Mac computers rather than just putting a Windows program in a Mac wrapper.
I've used Quicken for over 15 years. Quicken 2016 has serious flaws. When I load Quicken 2017 and try to run it I get a black screen. Customer service is inadequate. Apparently Quicken quality and service has deteriorated seriously in recent years. Can anyone recommend a good alternative to Quicken?

- edited July 2018Hi Scott. I've been using Quicken for about the same length of time. Right now I'm running Quicken 2017 Deluxe on a Windows 7 64 bit desk top. I use Direct Connect for 2 bank accounts, 4 credit cards and a home and car loan. I also use the mobile app. I'm having no issues.
Have you posted your issues here? - edited May 2018I have run desktop versions of Moneyspire, Ace Money, and Moneydance in parallel with my QWP2018 Program, and I still cannot find a program to compare with all the features of Quicken.
Quicken.Inc is a new Company splitting from Intuit. I hearthat It has had to hire new personal including a new development team which I believe has been rewriting the Program (all flavors) from archaic coding with no help from the former parent - Intuit.
I made a vow to give the new Company a chance for one year. I hope that other users will also give the New Company a chance.

I have spent several hours trying to work with their online service - to no avail.Hi Scott. I've been using Quicken for about the same length of time. Have you posted your issues here? - edited February 2018I have long promoted Quicken but I am unable to make it work now. And, I cannot get helpful service from Quicken staff. I have lost several days trying to make it work. I paid $55 for Quicken 2017 and it will not work on my Lenovo, Intel i5, Windows 10 system. And I cannot get help. I cannot afford to waste any more time on a program that does not work.
- edited February 2018Scott, If you would desire more help from the Community here, I would suggest creating a New Thread pertaining to your problem; which I think is 'Online Services'.
You would attract more users who could relate to your problem, and thus, we could try to solve your issue. It is up to you. (grin)Now running the 2019 Windows Subscription Plan

I'm with you. I'm giving Quicken some time to get out of its funk. I'm running Q2015 so I go EOL in 2 months, and am hoping they work out most of the quirks in 2018 by then. There's just nothing else out there now that offers the breadth of what Q does. If they could only dedicate themselves to debugging whats already there it would be a great program.I have run desktop versions of Moneyspire, Ace Money, and Moneydance in parallel with my QWP2018 Program, and I still cannot find a program to compare with all the features of Quicken.

I apologize that you have been unable to open and use Quicken 2017 and for the experiences you have had with Quicken Support. I searched through our internal support database but could not locate any cases for you and this issue.
May I ask, did you call or chat in to Support? If called, what number did you call? Do you happen to have the Case Number for the contact(s) with Support?
The black screen that is seen when attempting to open Quicken - do any errors or messages appear? Were any errors or messages received during the installation process? Was Quicken installed from a CD or a download link in your My Account at www.quicken.com?
If from a CD, you may be missing necessary updates that allow Quicken to run properly. If you haven't already, I would recommend downloading and installing the Mondo Patch found at https://www.quicken.com/support/quicken-2017-windows-release-notes-updates-and-mondo-patch.
Please let me know how it goes and if the issue persists after updating to the latest release.
Thank you,
Sarah - edited November 2018I'm with MRZOOKIE and JERRY. I too was very frustrated, but gave QMAC 2018 a try and am happy I did. My transition went very smoothly, and when I did contact support with a problem, the representative was knowledgeable and helpful. I had looked into several alternative programs, but I couldn't find anything as full-blown as Quicken. I've been with them for decades, so I'm hanging in there with full confidence that the new owners are doing their best to resolve a lot of the issues and bring the Mac version to a par with the Windows version. Kuddos, guys.

Yes I've got a PayPal problem! No I'm not happy it can't seem to keep it together'. But I still get more out of Quicken than the problems take away. As much as anyone, I want to see the New Quicken as successful as the old one was in it's Hay Day.I'm with MRZOOKIE and JERRY. I too was very frustrated, but gave QMAC 2018 a try and am happy I did. And quoting @mrzookie : 'There's just nothing else out there now that offers the breadth of what Q does.' - edited March 2018Scott, I have been using Quicken since ~3.0. The program has expanded a great deal since then. I did go looking for a replacement - but did not find anything that would handle investments, business and household spending in the one program.
Quicken, in it's last few years of Intuit ownership, was sadly neglected. The main reason I have kept it has been, as Jerry stated above, to give the new ownership a chance. There has been problems with the transition. With the resulting heavy re-write of codes there have been fresh and 'interesting' bugs inserted, but overall I think progress has been made.
If Quicken is listening - my main complaint would be that direct support is a glorious waste of time. The community is much better at solving issues and additionally the Quicken staff here are more responsive that the ignorant idiots on customer support.
Specifically, it would seem the telephone support never know if the issue has appeared elsewhere, is related to a specific update, whether Quicken is working on a solution.Quicken, nothing is more frustrating than not getting an answer to these questions. To borrow a page from a software package I particularly like - each time an issue is reported they give it a number, put it in a searchable database and send out e-mail alerts as to which SPRs are fixed with each update. Some people joke about presenting an issue and only getting a six digit number in return but that is far better than Quicken Support's current style.
